Self-described purveyors of gunk pop, Black Ends is an indie band based in Seattle that plays grunge inspired alt rock with art punk and pop highlights. They are a powerful trio that brings what is ultimately a deeply artsy sound into a more accessible, pop space. Ben Swanson's bass and Bille Paine's (and Jonny Modes', up till 2020) drums provide the solid foundation that gives Nicolle Swims the room to roam with her slightly grainy vocals. She also plays the guitar with a warped sound effect that adds a strong off-kilter feel to her lead. The combination is catchy tunes that are rich with multiple hooks and clearly laid out arrangements that offer the listener a somewhat off-kilter experience around warm and comfortable songs.
