KIbi James is an Atlanta based indie rock trio with a hazy, dreamy sound and soft-spoken delivery, which is how they emerged from a four-year gap around the pandemic period. Prior to that, their music was geared towards post-punk from a lo-fi angle. Their first EP, Azúcar (2019) contains some rough gems that were catchy and felt playful. When they regrouped for their 2023 debut album delusions, they were a more polished band and had developed a lush sound to wrap around their usually strongly melodic music in ways that place them in roughly the same ballpark as Winter and early Warpaint. Some of their songs have Latin elements, and they occasionally switch to Spanish in their vocals.
