Just Mustard

Just Mustard is a band based in Dundalk, Ireland, whose music is a hybrid of shoegaze and post-punk. While the drums and the bass drive the song through their locked in post-punk patterns, the guitars go beyond the genre's typical atmospheric drone and decorative bursts, straight into the shoegaze territory, erecting a wall of distorted riffs. The combination comes across as trip-hop that is harder and edgier at times. Their vocalist, Katie Ball does a good job of adding a dreamy layer on top that bridges between the opposing poles. The instrumentation is mostly basic and makes nice use of loops and electronics that contribute to the overall dreaminess without getting lost in it. They manage to keep a light touch on the dark undertones and do not let it dominate their sound.
