Bambara is a Brooklyn-based post-punk band with goth leanings, whose typically dark songs can be relied on to bring a sense of deep foreboding to any lively party. Their music has mostly had two main modes: the one that plays like a mid-tempo dirge where the bass takes the lead, supported by a drum pattern, and the guitars joining in bursts, which was more common early on, and the one with punk-inspired pieces driven by high-tempo drums and guitar, as they have been doing more of recently. Singer Reid Bateh has a wonderful low register voice that fits in with the sense of doom the band projects. He sounds like a mixture of Jim Morrison and Nick Cave singing in a speaking voice. When not in the throes of distortion, the guitar stays on the stark tones adding a slight Western twang in the background.
