FRIGS are a post-punk band from Toronto that works in the gloomier regions of the genre. They have the dark tones built around the drums and bass, with the bright, bare, and jangly guitar standing out in contrast. The bass player Lucas Savatti keeps the engine turning while Bria Salmena, the vocalist, carries the emotional tone of the music, singing in a low register with mannerisms that at times seems to be channelling Siouxsie Sioux and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon. The songs are constructed with an overarching mood and texture, but they still retain a melodic kick. These are clearly not uplifting, sunny songs, but they are pretty compelling.
