Public Practice
Outline
Public Practice is a band formed by the members of two ex New York bands: Samantha York and Vince McClelland from WALL, which was a punkier post-punk band, and Drew Citron and Scott Rosenthal from Beverly, which was an indie pop band that placed some dream pop gems inside a noise pop shell. The result is effectively a rougher strand of post-punk crossing over into dancey grooviness. The band embraces this sound with the kind of joy one might feel from hearing those good old disco octaves bursting from the bass. In between these two poles, the band often references a type of new wave that used to be associated with bands like Talking Heads and Blondie back in the day, and a dash of Pretenders for additional flavor. They do bring a broad range of influences to the table and the good thing about that is, they also have the musical clarity to navigate them without getting side tracked.
