Jana Horn is a singer-songwriter with a distinctive sound that taps party into a dreamy form of indie rock and partly into Broadcast-adjacent, French pop influenced, cool art pop. Her songs have the kind of subtle tones and understated melodies paired with even-keeled delivery that is not too far from artists like Aldous Harding, plus some of the restlessness and imaginative orchestration that might bring Cate Le Bon to mind. Her guitar work does not draw a lot of attention at the mixing table, but it is fascinating in the way it adds a subtle jazzy touch into her music. It also seems to be expressing some unresolved tension in between the lines, especially in 2023's The Window Is the Dream. So what appears to be mellow, dreamy music at the surface tends to have more going on underneath the top layer.
