Immaterial Possession
Outline
Immaterial Possession is a band with a lot of throwback qualities, specifically centered around a late '60s and early '70s type of mellow psychedelic sound. They also regularly tug at a variety of other strings, including English folk, French pop, traces of medieval and middle eastern motifs as presented by the bands of the period. They do this just enough to enrich the textures of their songs without diving head first into the depths of those styles. The result is a consistent sound that strikes a fine balance and gives their music a distinct feel. Their instrumentation reflects that flavor as well, from the tones they tap into on the keyboards to the thudding sound of the bass, and so forth. Their songs tend to be mid-tempo affairs mostly, with understated melodies that serve the mood the band evokes.
