Mother Tongues
Outline
Mother Tongues are a Toronto based five-piece band that started out with the hazy psychedelic sounds of the late '60s and gradually moved over to the early '90s, Lush style dream pop while preserving their hazy, floaty feel. They also enjoy switching things up stylistically in short stretches whether it is a quick classic rock type bursts on the guitar, or the occasional jangle, or a bit of new wave inserted here and there in passing. There are still some remnants of the earlier psychedelia phase in their current work, however understated it may be relative to their initial 2020 EP, Everything You Wanted, where they were poking further out into the world of the late '60s and its budding progressive sound. Lead vocals are handled by bassist Charise Aragoza whose misty voice adds a lot to the band's atmospherics.
Charise Aragoza and Hannah Bussiere Kim played with Luna Li.
Aragoza also played with Maylee Todd and Hooded Fang.
Nick Kervin was a member of B17s and Mimico.
