hemlock

hemlock (all lower case) is the stage name for singer-songwriter Carolina Chauffe, a folk artist who has seemingly been working on two separate tracks these days: On the one hand, she has a body of work that involves well-fleshed out music recorded in a studio with all the production value that goes into it (including some electric bits at times). This is where she is quite melodic, and the songs are memorable, and well worked out. Her second track, on the other hand, is her "a song a day for a month" series (each collection named for the month) where the songs are mostly sketches recorded on a phone. It is a fascinating project that gives the audience a glimpse into an artist's creative process. Her songs often have some melodic weight on that front as well, though that is clearly not the point of the exercise, in a way.
