Hovvdy is an indie rock duo made up of two singer, guitarists Charlie Martin and Will Taylor, who were both originally drummers looking into launching solo projects with their songs but ended up deciding to form a band instead. Their first few albums were decidedly lo-fi and occasionally slowcore affair. They graduated from that in 2019's Heavy Lifter and now make use of synths, overdubbed vocals, and so on. Their songs have also picked up the tempo, adding glimpses of what sounds like perk to their music. There are even parts now that could potentially make for slow group singalongs ... though thankfully that is just a random thing. That said, it is a special treat to see two musicians who are clearly locked into one another in terms of their performance and their esthetic, which makes for a powerful partnership that benefits their work as well as their fans.
