Squirrel Flower
Outline
Squirrel Flower is the stage name used by singer-songwriter and guitarist Ella Williams whose music covers the range between quiet and contemplative indie folk pieces played on acoustic guitar on the one hand, and fuzzed up electric guitar noise on the other. She hangs out somewhere in the middle for the most part, flipping back and forth, breaking into her sentimental balladry with interludes of indie rock bursts before she regains her cool folk composure ... and, boy, can she put up a mean wall of distortion when she feels like it (check out the halfway point of "Night"). Her songs are melodically patient, and come with strong hooks. They carry a sense of robustness with them even when her vocals have taken a subdued and fragile turn.
