Gloin
Outline
Gloin is a Toronto based post-punk band that combines the dramatic and foreboding sound of goth with the dynamic feel of noise rock. There are some Joy Division influences in their work that resonate with the band's general atmospherics, the flow of their bass lines, and especially the tone of John Wetson's vocal delivery that brings to mind their legendary singer Ian Curtis. The guitars introduce a shoegaze inspired high accent on an otherwise bottom heavy sound, which ties into the other component that defines their sound, namely, the fuzzy, Sonic Youth type attack that pushes through the cracks in their layer of gloom. Their music is loud and has an aggressive edge, their hooks are bold, but the band also has a way to use restraint to elevate tension.
