Sunn O)))

Sunn O))) (the "O" is silent; it is intended as the logo) is the quintessential drone metal band with their long, guitar fuzz that buzzes for 10, 15, 20 minutes without any discernible beat or any obvious melodic lines anywhere in sight to latch on to. Vocals are a rarity in their entire catalog. Sometimes there is some bass plucking that goes on, but otherwise they are all drone all the time going back to the first note on their first album in 1999. Their music is fully immersed in a sense of dread and menace as it creeps across with a seriously slowed down pulse. It appears that the band intends to push the envelope on the concept of a song and bring metal into the ambient territory. There are times they add industrial type noise or horns or a choir for added flavor without changing the fundamentals of their logic. Obviously, their music takes some acclimation to fully appreciate.
