Divide and Dissolve

Divide and Dissolve is the project of guitarist and saxophonist Takiaya Reed, though it was a duo for many years with Sylvie Nehill on drums. Her music is all instrumental, with a heavy use of sludge, built on a dronish guitar noise that rips through the air while her soprano saxophone helps instill an ambient component to her music, with plenty of added tension and at times, introducing chamber style motifs. Her work can get fairly aggressive, though it retains an organic feel through its fluctuations between her otherworldly serene sax and heavy distortion effects. There are occasional spoken word segments to her music that works well with the deeply political nature of her work, as evidenced by some of her song titles.
