Jambinai
Outline
Jambinai (a.k.a. 잠비나이), is a band from Seoul, South Korea that combines traditional Korean instruments with basic rock instrumentation to create an industrial inspired post-rock fusion sound. The core of the band is Shim Eun-Yong on geomungo, Kim Bo-Him on haegum, and Lee-Il Woo on guitar and taepyeongso, supplemented by various musicians on drums and bass. Their sound is built on a particular interaction between these instruments: the geomungo provides the percussive, plucked bass riff, and the string instrument haegum provides the higher pitch almost wailing sound at the top, while the guitar, bass, and drum hammer out an ominous layer in the middle. The music has fairly dark tones, and it ranges from apocalyptic, end-of-the-world art noise and achingly beautiful expansive soundscapes. The pieces are mostly instrumental, but there are some vocals, occasionally.
The Korean flavor of their music adds a distinct flavor to the band's achingly beautiful doom and gloom.
