King Woman is one of the projects led by singer Kristina Esfandiari, an artist who seems to be always drawn to a dark and foreboding sound across different genres. This particular project of hers focuses on a form of doom metal that houses post-rock style dirges paired with a shoegaze style wall of distortion. The band frequently reaches into the quiet/loud/quiet dynamics in their work, only in their case it sounds more like brooding/anxious/brooding. The brooding sections are often led by an arpeggiated guitar and may occasionally give off Chelsea Wolfe vibes. The anxious parts are explosive to be sure, but they do not necessarily pack a metal level punch most of the time. Their sonic attack is often more textural than it is riff driven. The themes of their songs are typically centered around Esfandiari's life experiences growing up.

Kristina Esfandiari is a quite busy person: She works under the name Dalmatian on her rap project, Miserable on her shoegaze project, NGHTCRWLR on her industrial noise project, and works with Darcy Baylis in Sugar High.
