Death Grips

Death Grips are a Sacramento based alternative hip-hop trio that plays a harsh, abrasive type of hip-hop that draws from the industrial genre. Their music typically hangs out at the edge of sonic chaos, though without quite losing its tether. They came out in 2011with their mixtape Exmilitary where they created their own blend of noise, rock, and hip-hop, and that style did not change too much over the years other than their natural progression towards more intricate textures and sharper production. Vocalist MC Ride (aka Stefan Burnett) goes back and forth between ferociously shout singing and shout rapping on top of Zach Hill's brutal and frantic drums and layers of electronic effects and synth lines. Their music may not be for everyone, but they do hit the spot for those who are more at home with an aggressive form of hip-hop.
