Injury Reserve is the rapper/producer duo Ritchie with a T and Parker Corey who started out as an alternative hip-hop trio with rapper Stepa J. Groggs also in the line-up. Their first album was constructed with laid back grooves and a low key approach that integrated some soul and jazz elements into their music. From there they grew as an inventive, experimental outfit that continued to reference jazz occasionally but also dialed back the playfulness while placing a sharper focus on beats and textures, as well as pop-friendly tunes. Groggs died in 2020 after the band had already completed the basic work their 2021 album By the Time I Get to Phoenix, which signaled a shift in style and approach for the band that was leaning towards a more noise driven, dissonant sound that deals with grief and confusion.
