Injury Reserve
Outline
Injury Reserve was an alternative hip-hop trio that comprised rappers/producers Ritchie with a T, Parker Corey, and Stepa J. Groggs. Their first album was constructed with laid back grooves and a low-key approach that integrated some soul and jazz elements into their music. From there they grew as an inventive, experimental outfit that continued to reference jazz occasionally but also dialed back the playfulness while placing a sharper focus on beats and textures, as well as pop-friendly tunes. Groggs passed away in 2020 after the band had already completed the basic work for their 2021 album By the Time I Get to Phoenix, which signaled a shift in style and approach for the band that was leaning towards a more noise driven, dissonant sound that deals with grief and confusion.
After Groggs' passing, Ritchie with a T and Parker Corey decided to continue as By Storm.
