Dancer is a band of musicians whose paths have continually criss-crossed in different configurations in the Glasgow music scene. So the members had already built their chemistry with one another before they released their self-titled debut EP in 2023. There is a fair amount of jagged, angular post-punk in their songs that alternates with quick pick guitar lines flirting with math rock or jangling along their catchy melodies. Vocalist Gemma Fleet provides a focal point as she sings with restraint and adds warmth to the tunes. Occasionally she turns to speak-singing delivery with the kind of dryness that is not too far from Florence Shaw's work with Dry Cleaning.
