Cucamaras

Cucamaras is a post-punk band that works in a similar vein as many of their contemporaries like Egyptian Blue and Hallan, employing the same kind of muscular beat and a rock-oriented sound. There is plenty of speak-singing, obviously, where vocalist Olly Bowsley delivers his lines with the kind of cadence and impish tone that brings to mind folks like James Smith of Yard Act or Tom Greenhouse of The Cool Greenhouse. Musically, they have slightly darker accents, with a fair amount of indie rock influences they bring to the table, adding perhaps a hint of '90s rough textures into their overall sound, though mostly in batches. The band does a good job at melding these stylistic pulls into gripping songs driven by a solid pulse.
