Hallan brings strong rock elements into their muscular post-punk. They have the speak-sing vocals, the choppy, angular guitars and a repetitious flow on the one hand, powerful and fuzzy riffs and punchy beats on the other. They play fairly strong grooves with plenty of volume and aggressiveness. That said, they appear to be equally comfortable downshifting to lower tempo songs. Melodically they are pretty much in the post-punk playground for sure, especially the way in which vocalist Conor Clements delivers his lines with the inflections of a young Mark E. Smith, including his occasional yelps. He also happens to be fairly open with respect to their politics and wear them on his sleeves.
