Choker

Choker is the stage name of singer-songwriter Chris Lloyd, who stands out with his boundary-pushing, highly eclectic style and imaginative production. His music is primarily R&B based, especially in its melodic flow, but also draws a great deal from hip-hop beats and contemporary indie pop esthetics. The texture of his voice and singing style are often compared to Frank Ocean, but in reality, he has been blowing past such pigeonholing through his experimental approach that explores different textures and forges his own sound. The stylistic shifts that take place midstream in his songs can be jarring at times, though the transitions are relatively smoothed out in his 2019 trilogy of EPs. His knack for mixing and matching hooks, adds a fascinating layer to his already compelling work.
