Steve Lacy is a guitar player, songwriter and singer originally from Compton, CA. He joined the Odd Future offshoot The Internet while still a high school student and immediately became a part of that particular musical ecosystem as a guitarist. His solo work has a lot of the quirky bedroom recording features, but it stands out more with its sheer creative force and somewhat unconventional flow. He works mostly in the space where alternative R&B and indie rock meet, with a dash of funk and jazz for additional flavor. His songs are not necessarily catchy pieces, but they are compositionally strong and very well-executed, giving off momentary vibes take turns between Prince, Van Hunt, and Anderson Paak, while producing a completely original and distinctive body of work.
