Mereba

Marian Mereba, who goes by her last name only, is a singer-songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist who creates music that is mostly alternative R&B but also moves into indie folk with some regularity, often remaining somewhat ambiguous. She also pulls motifs from blues, pop, and jazz, with an occasional touch of hip-hop into the mix, but only as passing reference. Her songs tend to hover around the mid-tempo range and have a relaxed flow. She sings, raps, reads poetry, with her smooth and calm voice while backed by fairly minimal instrumentation. Her arrangements are generally sparse, though she also frequently layers her vocals through multitracking, and in doing so, expands her otherwise low-key melodies and subtle hooks adding a more intricate feel to her music.
