Chalk Talk takes an old school, stripped down form of indie rock that is stylistically in line with the non-grunge variety of '90s alt-rock, and built with a similar DIY esthetic. Their music generally tends to be the opposite of flashy. The songs generally have a strong melodic flow, delivered with clarity and a certain level of wistfulness, also benefitting a great deal from their direct and sparse approach to production. They like to stay at the mid-tempo range with relaxed bass hooks that back vocalist Nina Tartibi's measured guitar. Their output has been intermittent thus far, but the band has been able to maintain a high level of consistency in their sound across their albums.
