Stef Chura is a singer-songwriter and guitar player with an ear towards old school indie rock sound of intense and loud guitars bursts, and songs that lead to fuzzy peaks with the backing of some powerful drumming. Her music is very much aligned with the alt-rock style, especially of the '90s, to which she adds a little rolling feel and some contemporary touches. She frequently tears into her guitar and sings with a distinctive and expressive voice that also comes with a bit of flutter. There is some tension in her music in the way her earnestness plays off of her sense of self awareness (as suggested by her voice), something that is reminiscent of Courtney Barnett to some extent. Her first album, Messes (2017), had overt lo-fi features and a level of rawness that has mostly faded since then.
