Allysha Joy
Outline
The solo work of singer, songwriter, pianist Allysha Joy does not stray too far from the music of her Melbourne based soul, jazz, hip-hop, and breakbeat oriented band 30/70; except for leaning perhaps a touch more on the R&B and soul side. Just a touch. An effective merger between soul and jazz is at the core of her music, built around her rich and slightly husky voice, which she uses as an instrument that brings its own coloring to the table. Her sound is richly textured and nuanced, as she brings elements of funk and subtle post-punk influences into the mix. Broken beats were more prominent on her earlier albums, as well as a hip-hop style flow, both of which somewhat recede to the background on her 2024 album The Making of Silk.
30/70, Yazmin Lacey, Jordan Rakei, Ego Ella May, Poppy Ajudha, Zara McFarlane, and obviously, Sade
She is a member of the Melbourne based band, 30/70.
