Outline
Format is a relatively new festival having made its debut in 2022. The music, art and technology festival, as it is touting itself, takes place in Bentonville, AR, initially on the 250 acre grounds of the private Sugar Creek Airstrip. However, for 2023 they made a last minute switch to The Momentary, a contemporary art museum and performance venue.
While it hasn't been around for long, it is not lacking in funding, being the brainchild of Wal-Mart heirs. In its first year the musical lineup was impressive and somewhat surprising in its combination of cutting edge artists from around the world with well-known luminaries like Herbie Hancock. The second year's lineup maintains that to some extent but does seem to have shifted a bit to featuring a few big pop star headliners with the rest dominated by electronic dance music.
In addition to musical acts, there are many visual and performance art exhibitions.
