Water Damage

Water Damage is an Austin-based music collective that plays a relentlessly drone-driven instrumental post-rock with a strong percussive profile. The outfit sports two bass players, three drummers, and a small army of guitar, keyboard, and violin players, all of whom tend to be artists with established careers, whether working solo or in various groups in some combination with one another over the years. The music is hypnotically repetitive, with beats that stay in the motorik lane, and a level of sonic aggression that at times borders on metal. It is also primal and intense. Given that their pieces are named by their catalog designation (see "Reel 5b" or "Reel EE"), it is clear that this project is essentially an exercise in sonic experimentation, one that shows cacophony can be turned into something profoundly artful and captivating in the hands of people who know what they are doing.
