Ulrika Spacek is a band that has a distinctive sound inspired by elements drawn from a variety of sources. Most prominent is the dream pop layer with shoegaze accents that sits up front and center, mixed in with a psychedelic component that gives their music a loose, floating feel. There are some Deerhunter influences in there, and arguably some Stereolab magic as well. On their earlier albums, they also made use of motorik beats more overtly and their overall sound was closer to post-rock in places. Not every one of these ingredients appears in every one of their songs of course, but that is pretty much the neighborhood they have been operating in. The resulting sound is balanced and cohesive. It is definitely on the dreamy and hazy side, while it s also cool-headed and feels quite organic.
