Sofia Isella

Sofia Isella is in some ways, a distillation of the darker corners of the contemporary pop scene in Los Angeles. Her tone is dark, really dark, which comes across loud and clear, unambiguously. And yet, her sound palette is often not completely locked into the traditional goth range. It overlaps quite a bit, but it is also bright at its center. It is quite reminiscent of Chelsea Wolfe on the surface. Except it is not as much despair that drives her songs, but a seething, Amanda Palmer in her Dresden Dolls days kind of anger. She has a murmury delivery with mumbly edges that is reminiscent of Billie Eilish. Her songs are melodically solid and well-restrained, with a great emphasis placed on sexual politics in her lyrics.
