Snazzback

Snazzback is a Bristol-based jazz septet with an eclectic approach that builds on some of the late '70s pop accented fusion style (see Brand X, among others) though they take that in a funkier direction. There is a strong melodic core to their music that gives it pop-like sparks, no doubt aided by the brightness and clarity of their brass section. They rhythmically reference a range of styles, especially Afrobeat, along with some Brazilian beats and an occasional touch of drum 'n' bass. They are a tight ensemble that structures their pieces in a way that makes them feel like songs rather than open-ended musical exploration. This also serves as a nice backdrop for the band making generous use of vocals, whether in the form of spoken word poetry or conventional singing.
