Hippo

Hippo is a Bristol based jazz trio that plays with a solid rock mindset that helps create the type of sweeping uptempo sound that seems heavily influenced by the synth driven classic fusion sound of the '80s. The band comprises a saxophone, synths and a drum set, with overall dynamics that are not too far from other Bristol based fusion bands like Run Logan Run and Waldo's Gift, with results residing in roughly the same area code, though with some clear differences. Their electronic textures and synth work are quite similar, but while the other band have been exploring the spacier, more hypnotic angle, Hippo gravitates towards syncopated funky grooves and push deeper into the melodic territory with remarkable results.
