Sly5thAve

Sylvester Onyejiaka, who goes by Sly5thAve, is a composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist (though primarily on the saxophone) whose jazz bears deep ties to hip-hop and soul. He is a versatile artist who works in a variety of forms ranging from orchestral jazz to post-bop, frequently integrating fusion elements into his music. Especially in recent years, he has been tacking closer to a pop jazz sound. His hip-hop sensibilities and love for contemporary beatmaking techniques have also been quite evident in his catalog, as was the case in his 2017 album The Invisible Man, which presents an orchestral version of a collection of Dr. Dre's work, and his 2022 collaboration with rapper JSWISS, Somebody's Gotta Do It.
