Theo Croker
Outline
Theo Croker is a trumpeter whose work grew out of the post-bop jazz tradition, and has fully embraced the world of modern fusion since then, integrating with elements of funk, electronica and hip-hop. His music also adopts an Afro-futurist vision along with a dash of vintage mystical themes. He has a cool and smooth playing style that emphasizes Miles Davis type of restraint and elegant simplicity. He certainly is not a traditionalist in spirit despite the classic tones he captures on his horn. Instead, he has developed an eclectic sound that matches current trends in jazz in incorporating modern musical idioms, including J Dilla type beats on occasion (as in "Saul Call || Vibrate"). He has been collaborating with quite a range of musicians across the spectrum such as Wyclef Jean, Kassa Overall, and Garey Bartz.
Roy Hargrove, Butcher Brown, Ashley Henry, Robert Glasper
His grandfather is jazz trumpeter Doc Cheatham.
