Nubiyan Twist is a 9 piece band originating in Leeds, but currently based in London, whose music is often a mix-and-match combination of Afrobeat, jazz, soul, Latin, and a little dub, played mostly from a relatively pop-oriented angle. They are a tight ensemble with a particularly outstanding brass section that gives them some of their signature punchy sound. Having a sharp rhythm section that they do also helps in that regard, obviously. They have had roughly the same line up since they started in the early '10s, with the only loss being their original vocalist Nubiya Brandon, who left in 2019. Given the range of styles they regularly draw from, the band has a remarkable ability to make their music accessible for a broad base of the audience by pushing more melodic elements to the front.
