KOKOROKO
Outline
KOKOROKO is a London-based jazz band led by trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey, which originally had artists like guitarist Oscar Jerome and saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi as members. They play in the Afrobeat genre broadly, and do so on the mellower side. Their music leans in a decidedly gentle direction, and perhaps serves as a nice entry point for more casual fans. Maurice-Gray and trombonist Nanguy are restrained and delicate in the wind section, paired with the laid back and detailed work by Tobi Adenaike on the guitar and Yohan Kebed on the keyboards. What stands out most in their work is the melodically constructed compositions and the subtle interplay between the members.
Maisha, Oscar Jerome, Yussef Kamaal, Ashley Henry, Nerija
Sheila Maurice-Grey are members of Nerija and Seed.
Oscar Jerome, Shirley Tetteh, and Cassie Kinoshi were some of the previous member.
