Ghost-Note is an offshoot of the jazz ensemble Snarky Puppy led by the drummer Robert "Sput" Searight and percussionist Nate Werth. The basic premise of their work is to put drums and percussion up front without fully deviating from the original Snarky Puppy formula, i.e., embedding jazz in a highly structured format with pop-compatible highlights. They also keep a fluid line up, having tapped into a talented pool of Dallas-based jazz musicians as well as other well known instrumentalists in the field. As a result, they usually pack wall to wall technical prowess in their performances. Their music is indeed rhythmically driven, with a fair amount of funk that lays out their groundwork, integrating with a variety of rhythmic traditions that range from Afrobeat to Afro-Cuban to Latin, and some hip-hop beats also thrown in there for a well-rounded sound.
