Shovel Dance Collective
Outline
Shovel Dance Collective re-imagines traditional folk as a sonic experiment. They are a nine member collective, as the name implies, who, at their core, are engaged in reviving medieval folk with their vocal arrangements and choice of instrumentation. The scaffolding of the songs tends to have an experimental twist at some level, whether it is in the electronic background or instrumental avant-garde passages, or collages of found sound, as the case may be. The result can be captivating in a way that feels fresh and lived-in simultaneously, making them a compelling listen. Their music is as colorful as the English, Scottish, and Irish traditions that inspire them, joyful in its own ways at one moment, and mournful the next.
