Sam Amidon

Sam Amidon is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (guitar, banjo, fiddle) whose work is anchored in the traditional folk sound drawn mostly from Irish and Appalachian sources. His catalog consists of original compositions and existing folk tunes, as well as covers of contemporary songs that may not always have a folk origin, but almost always delivered through the same esthetic vein. That said, he is not a strict traditionalist in terms of style, and is likely to bring synths and other electric instruments into his arrangements. The result is music that walks the line between the old and the new, and maintains a distinct feel in the process that is guarded by Amidon's strong ethnographic sensibility.
