Matt Ward, who goes by M. Ward professionally, is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who has been releasing work since the late '90s that is centered around traditional folk with a touch of jazz. His music evokes a sense of timelessness even when he dives deeper into the world of old timey folk, guitar twang and all, the way he did in his first few album. His songs are typically soft, introverted subtle gems that grow on the listener after some repeat listens if they haven't already grabbed them from the get go. He also usually keeps his arrangements close to bare bones, often accompanied by an acoustic guitar. Every now and then he adds a little more, brings in a few rock or pop elements for fun, but his overall sound has not changed too much and remains distinctive to this day.
