caroline

caroline (stylized in lower case) is an eight-piece band that plays expansive music that builds on drone like repetitions that can lead to beautiful, almost Typhoon like sprawling melodies or unsettling, though oddly appealing streams of dissonance. In addition to the basic rock set up, the band sports two violins, a cello, brass and woodwinds, which adds orchestral richness and depth to their music, with remarkable interplay between the instruments. They were originally formed by Jasper Llewellyn and Casper Hughes as a duo that played mostly Appalachian folk and midwestern emo. They gradually drifted away from that sound as more members joined, and the band began to mutate into their current post-rock format and experimental flair.
