Robocobra Quartet is a Belfast based six piece band that combines post-punk, jazz, and beat poetry into a highly distinctive sound. They limit themselves to only four members on stage at any given time so they do technically qualify as a quartet. Drummer and vocalist Chris Ryan is typically the only fixed member in the fluid line up. The band combines the somewhat funky post-punk grooves of the rhythm section with with jazzy flourishes on the saxophone. Theirs is adventurous music that is also prone to unexpected turns and dramatic peaks and valleys, which have drawn comparisons to Black Country New Road. the Isaac Wood years, obviously. Ryan delivers his sing-spoken lines with the type of panache mixed in with amused sarcasm of Yard Act's James Smith.
