Nope, Ritt Momney is not a Mitt Romney tribute band, although that in itself would have been quite a concept. Instead, it is the stage name used by singer/songwriter Jack Rutter, who adopted it as his own after everyone left the band by the same name. More of an introspective artist, Rutter has an unusual ear for off-the-beaten-path melodies. He writes songs that are in more or less indie folk style but put together as minimalist, fractured pieces of music drenched in partially autotuned melancholic yearning. A lot of his music involves beautifully mournful lo-fi songs rendered with sparse instrumentation. He has recently been developing a more upbeat muscle, recording songs tha are still not songs of happiness for sure, but come with a beat more often than he used to these days, picking up the pace, and getting electronic loops more involved in his music.
