Briston Maroney is an indie rock artist with very clear '90s alt rock tendencies and a strong connection to conventional pop idioms and effects. His songs are filled with vocal and guitar-driven hooks, big choruses, and have pretty much every melodic contour doubly underlined. He was fairly intense and earnest in his early EPs and by the time he released his first album, Sunflower, he had started focusing on the craft of songwriting and constructing memorable tunes. His arrangements are built around a driving bass, steady drums, guitars that introduce the melodic motifs, and his angsty vocals.
