The Backseat Lovers are an indie rock band with an easy-going style that plays uptempo but relaxed, self-reflective but not anxiety-driven songs. The lead singer Josh Harmon has a smooth voice and sings in a relatable style without anything particularly flashy as he effectively brings out the song's dramatic elements. When they kick it up to the next level for their choruses, it comes across as a part of their song dynamics as opposed to the band meeting a stylistic requirement to pump up the crowd for some anthemic high. They write catchy tunes regularly and have a very matter-of-fact way of delivering them. The two guitarists (Harmon and Jonas Swanson) are very well locked in to one another, which adds a great deal of natural flow to their music.
