Penelope Isles

Penelope Isles are an indie pop band led by siblings Jack and Lily Wolter.  They make bouncy, upbeat pop with a nice, rolling feel and catchy tunes. Their delivery occasionally has dream pop tones, especially in the low tempo songs, but their melodic direction is very up front and not covered with thick layers of arrangements. Especially the instrumental middle portions of songs like "Gnarbone" and "Sailing Still", the fuzzy guitars on "Cut Your Hair" make it clear that the band does not shy away from exploring different sonic textures on occasion, but at least for the moment, the home base that they return to seems to be the sweet melodies of jangly pop with straightforward arrangements that they are really good at.
