Ought

Ought was an indie band from Montreal that disbanded in 2021. They started out with a full embrace of the classic post-punk sound in their earlier work, released at a time the revival had not fully gained steam yet, including the speak-sing type delivery by vocalist Tim Darcy, an aggressively angular guitar, and their somewhat repetitive song structures. Te band turned a page on their third album, Room Inside the World (2018), with a smoother sound that started to drift closer to more recognizably indie rock type grooves. They moved towards a style that felt more mature, though still slightly off kilter. Darcy adopted a deeper voice towards the end of the band as they ended their run in 202, with half the band (Darcy and bassist Ben Stidworthy) forming Cola.
