Opus Kink
Outline
Opus Kink is a six-piece band that sports a saxophone and a trumpet in addition to the common set up of drums-bass-guitar-keys, with a truly composite approach to music that brings a number of post-punk threads together. It is possible to hear bits of The Jam and The Clash, where the lead vocalist Agnus Rogers seems to go back and forth between Joe Strummer and Nick Cave. The horn section does more than accenting notes or introducing fun motifs; they actually change the texture of the music and pushes the band into a whole new direction, whether they are jazzing it up or pulling their sound into the '70s Ennio Morricone soundtrack orbit. Overall, the band does a great job in integrating the threads, so their music across perhaps as somewhat eclectic but in the best way.
